About

Nobody can teach creative writing—run like made from anybody who thinks he can. But one can teach practices, like finger exercises on the piano; one can share the tools of the trade, and what one has gleaned from the great writers. (Madeleine L’Engle, A Circle of Quiet, page 60-61)

My name is Rebecca, and I like to write.

I am originally from Chicago, but I have lived or studied in Utah, Seattle, Bolivia, Jerusalem, and Melbourne, Australia. I’m a stay-at-home mom with an infant. I also like to read and take photographs. My family and my religion are my highest priorities, and those priorities are often reflected in what I read and write.

This website highlights inspiring quotes on writing I’ve come across, as well as some of my writings and drafts. I’m not here to teach writing practices, but rather, I’m sharing my own collection of “finger exercises” to improve my creativity. It is motivation for me to keep thinking and to continue writing. I’ve always felt that I was meant to be a writer. While I know I am not a professional in any degree, I very much enjoy it.

I don’t follow every writing prompt I receive from the blogs I’m subscribed to: I can never know when I’ll have time to write. Besides, some prompts don’t resonate with me. I also don’t post every thing I’m writing. I do post quotes I read that inspire me and other short brainstorms or sketches as I have time.

Thanks for reading. I’d love to hear your thoughts about my writing. Constructive criticism is appreciated; please keep in mind that I am a beginner, only doing this in my “free” time.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Hi Rebecca,

How are you related to the Carbines?  I just noticed you have many quotes from them on your blog.  My grandfathers mother was a Carbine.  Lovisa Jane Carbine.
Also did you study at the BYU Jerusalem Center? I studied there in the fall of 1995.
