Grandma Peggy and Papa Paul joined us last weekend! Then, my brother and his family and my mother and father came up on Sunday for Caroline’s blessing in church. None of these picture are very great (and I’m sad I didn’t get any pictures of my brother or his wife or Grandpa S with Caroline either!) but we were too busy enjoying each others’ company and holding that cute baby to take pictures, I suppose.

Paul was very excited to host a “party” for our Friday Fun Night with Grandma and Papa. It was full of made-up games that he enjoyed inventing for us. Here is one of them.

(I promise, we will get real family pictures in the next few months.)

Paul saw me warming the bottle and asked, “But how are you going to get that back in to you to feed her?” So I had to let him give her her first bottle.

Reading bedtime stories with Grandma Peggy and Papa Paul.

I arrived in Utah after my bedtime on November 25. But I still had some smiles for Grandma Peggy and Papa Paul!

The next day, I discovered a room full of toys! Grandma Peggy watched me play and play and play. I had so much fun. Daddy came that day too. I was very glad to see him.

Mommy told me that the next day was Thanksgiving. We went to a restaurant. I looked carefully at the menu. I saw my cousins and aunts and uncles. We all ate a lot. I didn’t have any room left for pumpkin pie, not after all that turkey and the potatoes and sweet potatoes. I didn’t like the stuffing, but everything else was tasty.

We took a family photo. But I ate too much and had a tummy ache. Besides, I wanted my nap. That’s why I have a funny look on my face.

I also got to see some of my other cousins. Cousin Samuel didn’t really know how to walk yet, but he watched my good example and started to figure it out. Cousin Leah turned three years old. She is such a big girl! I was there for her birthday party. And my great-Grandma was there too. She is so nice!

Grandma Peggy made sure I had plenty to eat all weekend.

And I met more cousins. I can’t wait until I’m a little older; then I’ll have lots of fun with these boys.

Then we took more family pictures. At least I could cuddle with Daddy.

And then I got to smile by the Christmas tree.

Whew! That’s a lot of pictures to tell you about! I hope you had a happy thanksgiving too!

Paul and Mommy got to spend an afternoon with cousins Leah and Samuel and Aunt Jenny. Uncle Chris only had the chance to visit for a half hour before he had to go to work.

I’ve taken a long time to post these pictures. Since they were taken, newborn Samuel has doubled his age! He was five weeks old when they were taken.

Here are all the Reids!

Alex took the picture using his remote control shutter release, which meant we could all be in the picture, we didn’t have to wait 10 seconds between each picture, and we only had to be trying to keep control of the kids for about 5 minutes. Here are the three best shots.

I have not been keeping up! I have been absent from the web for two weeks. That is 10% of Paul’s life (he’s about 20 weeks old now). Here is an update.

Up in the Atmosphere

Paul has spent 46 hours up in the air in the past three weeks. Here’s the rundown of where he flew and how long it took:

  • Melbourne to Sydney: 1.5 hours
  • Sydney to San Francisco: 12 hours
  • San Francisco to Chicago: 5 hours
  • Chicago to Dallas: 2 hours
  • Dallas to Denver: 1.5 hours
  • Denver to Salt Lake City: 1 hour
  • Salt Lake City to Chicago: 3.5 hours
  • Chicago to San Francisco: 5 hours
  • San Francisco to Sydney: 13 hours
  • Sydney to Melbourne: 1.5 hours
  • Total: 46 hours in the air

Note: These totals do not include the time spent sitting in airplanes waiting to take off or waiting to disembark; they only include the flight times between the destinations. These totals also do not include the time spent sitting in airports, driving to airports, and packing to go to the airport (although Paul didn’t do much in the way of helping pack). All in all, we spent a lot of time travelling lately! I am so grateful that Paul was such a good sport.

Family Roundup

Paul has met all 5 of his grandparents/great-grandparents, 10 of 11 aunts and uncles (although some were only briefly met so there was no time to spit up on them), and all 8 of his cousins. (Uncle Carl, we missed you!)

Upset

Today I took Paul in for his next round of immunizations. I decided to have it done today rather than Friday (the next available day) because his schedule is already off; why not? He screamed while he got the shots, but he calmed down relatively well. He seems extra tired and a little sore. I think his extra chubbiness might help him not hurt as much as he did last time. I am glad it didn’t appear to be as bad as last time: I felt so mean!

Up Next

I have about 30 pictures to post.

For some reason, I thought I’d have time to post pictures while I was on my trip. I didn’t. In the coming days, I’ll be processing pictures of Paul with his Grandpa Sorenson, his cousins Daniel and Jessica, his Papa Paul and Grandma Peggy, his four Reid cousins, and his cousins Leah and Samuel. I also have a new family picture. Unfortunately, I only caught a few of the aunts and uncles on camera.

Check back often—and scroll down to make sure you didn’t miss a post. I’ll post the pictures as I get to them. (Each picture takes 10-30 minutes to process and it’s a matter of finding time amid all the other errands I need to do this week and next.)

Paul did not cry or fuss very much during his first 24 hours of airplane travel, much to his parents’ delight. He slept a lot. A fellow traveler congratulated us on having such a “good baby.” Does that mean that he would have been a “bad” baby had he cried? Would that have meant that we are “bad” parents?

After day one in his home country, Paul has met 2 of 5 grandparents/great-grandparents, 2 of 11 aunts/uncles, and 2 of 8 cousins.

We’ll make sure to take pictures (I haven’t really done so yet). I’ll post them when I get a chance to do so!

Paul has found his wings! He is going to visit his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins!

We’re flying from Melbourne to Chicago on Friday, February 1 (evening), and flying out again on Sunday, February 17 (morning). We’ll also visit Utah during those weeks. More details to come.

We look forward to seeing all of you (and Paul is eager to meet you)!
